Maharaja is a quiet, small-town barber whose life revolves around his daughter Jyoti and a humble household object they call "Lakshmi" — a dustbin they believe brought them good fortune. When burglars ransack their home and steal Lakshmi, the distraught man goes to the police but is met with ridicule and disbelief.
